January 2003 - New Year's Borrel
The New Year's Borrel was hosted by board member Lieke Rijken. There was
a huge pile of oliebollen. Also changes will take place at the ADB as well for
the name as for the board.
February 2003- Visit Parkview Square
building at North Bridge Road
The general manager Arjan Blom of the Divine Society located in the building
was our host. At the vacant 22nd floor of the building there was a stunning view
over Singapore and its surroundings. A unique feature of the Parkview Square is
the open plaza in front of the building.
10 March 2003 - Dredging Project Tanjung
Pelepas in Malaysia - Ballast Ham Dredging
The dredging project is the 2nd phase for the container terminal in the
harbor of Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia. Just across the second link with Singapore.
The project is a Joint Venture of 3 Dutch international dredging companies: Ballast
Ham Dredging, Boskalis and Van Oord ACZ, of which Ballast Ham Dredging has the
coordinating ‘sponsor’ role.
The visit contained a presentation by the project manager Mr. Kees de Groot,
a boat tour around the project and an on board visit to a suction hopper dredger.

in Asia, Mr. Tex Gunning
Mr Gunning, President of Unilever Bestfoods Asia, gave a presentation about
food strategy in Asia. He focused on the main countries China, India, Vietnam
and Indonesia. Part of the presentation was the marketing strategy of products
like Knorr, Wall.

a member of Singapore's Economic Development Board.

Serv Wiemers works at the Dutch Embassy in Beijing and is responsible for the
increase in trading, specifically the coordination of the network of the the Dutch
Business Support Offices in the 8 cities in China. During his talk he addressed
the following issues:
- How strong is the Chinese Economy ?
- How are the economic relationships between The Netherlands and China ?
- What is the Dutch government involvement for business in China ?
Mr Wiemers is also a member of the board at the Dutch Business Association
Beijing (DBA).
6 October 2003 - The Myths of Globalization,
Professor Hellmut Schütte
Rarely a day passes when we are not confronted with the issue of Globalization
The term may have become one of the most overused, misused and misleading terms
of our times. In the world of management, several myths of Globalization exist.
Professor Hellmut Schütte, Professor of International Management and Dean
of Insead's Asia Campus, discussed the shaky evidence for these beliefs and called
for a strategic approach that values and respects differences rather than glorifies
the often superficial myths of a ‘Globalizing World’.
27 October 2003 - Introducing the
current Dutch economy, Drs. J.W. Oosterwijk
Mr Oosterwijk, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, gave an
introduction about the current state of the Dutch Economy. The Dutch Embassy arranged
food and beverages at the Hollandse Club.
8 December 2003 - Visit VOPAK
Royal Vopak provides independent tank terminal capacity over the whole
world to the chemical and oil industries for the storage of liquid chemical products
and oil products. The ADB visited the oil terminal at Pulau Sebarok. |
